Marldon Gardening Club

A  BRIEF HISTORY

The origin of Marldon Gardening Club dates back to 1970, when a Flower Show was held in conjunction with the Marldon Apple Pie Fair.  The Village Hall Committee at that time asked Mr Roy Underhill if he would be the Secretary of the Flower Show in order to maintain continuity for arranging judges, booking the marquee etc.

There being strong support for the Flower Show in the village, Roy was later asked by Mr Fred Westaway and Mr Louis Goss to for a separate Gardening Club.

TODAY

The Club continues to hold its Annual Flower Show each year on August Bank Holiday Monday in Marldon Village Hall.

Marldon Gardening Club also holds a Spring Show and Autumn Show for members only.

The Club meets in the Village Hall at 7.30pm on the first Tuesday of the month (except January).  We organise speakers for most of our meetings, who give talks on a wide range of topics from ‘Exotic Plants’ to ‘Taking Autumn Cuttings’.

We currently have about 50 members and warmly welcome new members.

Anyone wishing to join please email: [email protected]

Everyone is welcome at our monthly meetings, a small charge is made for non members.

We also have Spring and Autumn Shows for our members. Our Annual Show has an “Open” class which anyone from outside the Parish can enter, and a “parishioners” class which is restricted to residents of the Parish and Kings Ash, and members of the Club. Socially, we have a Wine & Cheese evening in December, and a Christmas dinner usually held at Castle Barton restaurant.
